Harry Clegg, son of John Clegg and his wife Jane Shaw, born 21 May 1888 New Hey, Near Rochdale, England, died 28 Feb 1965, Haw Creek, Flagler CO, FL, married 1917, Julia Ward Ferguson, dau of Alfred A. Ferguson Carrie Holle, born 05 Dec 1894, Hogansville, Troup CO, GA, died 08 Jul 1983, Clyatt Nursing Home, Daytona Beach, Volusia CO, FL. Both buried Seville Cemetery, Seville, Volusia CO, FL.

The family is listed on page 25 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation listed as "Laborer Farm."

Harry Clegg emigrated to the United States alone at the age of seventeen and worked in Providence, RI as a chemist assistant. The advertisements of the Dupont Land Company relating to the pleasant winters in Florida brought him to this area several winters beginning about 1912 where he worked for the Haw Creek Farms Company managed by Zeb Booe.. He became a permanent resident in now Flagler CO in 1916 by buying Dr. Long’s farm.

The Ferguson family moved to Seville, Florida in 1899 to assume the operation of their Uncle John Hall's grove. Julia Ferguson joined her family later and attended John B. Stetson College to earn her teaching certificate. She taught school in Hammond, Barberville, National Gardens and Haw Creek schools.

Through the years he increased his acreage and added stock cattle. He was a produce broker. He served in the U S Army in WW I. He was a member of the Flagler County School Board from 1925 to 1932, was a school trustee and a member of the Board of County Commissioners from 1935-37.

There was an advertisement in the Jan 27, 1938 edition of The Flagler Tribune which announced the opening of Citizens Bank of Bunnell on Thursday, Jan 27, 1938 with capital sock of $25,000 and surplus of $5,000. Hours were 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Deposits up to $5,000 were insured by Federal Deposit Insurance. Officers were: E H Ashcraft, president; Charles R Creal, Executive Vice-President, Tom E Holden, Vice-President; and A C Jackson, cashier. Directors were E H Ashcraft, Charles R Creal, Tom E Holden, Harry Clegg, and Marcus C Strickland.

Harry was active in Centenary Methodist Church as teacher and pianist. He served as Worshipful Master of Bunnell Lodge #200 F & A M. Julia Clegg worked with the PTA and Epworth League. They were the parents of five children;

Both buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

Jack received his elementary and high school education in Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL where he was graduated in 1936. He completed a regular four year course of study at the University of Florida and was graduated in 1940 with the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Education. He spent the next year working towards a Master's degree at the University of Florida where he was a graduate assistant in English in the College of Education.

He was a school teacher, Flagler County Superintendent of Public Instruction (from Mar 1946 when he replaced Brady Wadsworth until 1 Jul 1952 when he resigned the position), County Commissioner (appointed to fill the remaining 2 year term of L E Wadsworth in Jan 1955), Mayor of Bunnell, Trustee of Daytona Beach Community College, president of Clegg & Associates, president of Ellis Bank of Bunnell and Flagler Beach, publisher of The Flagler Tribune and author of "History of Flagler County" and "My First Seventy-five Years."

He, as was his father, was Worshipful Master of Bunnell Masonic Lodge and active in Bunnell Methodist Church. Sgt Clegg served in the US Army during WWII. He joined American Legion Post 115 in 1946 and served a number of years as Adjutant and two terms as commander.

In Jun 1951 he received his master's degree in education from the University of Florida.

In Aug 1954 he sold his house on the corner of Moody Blvd and Moore Street to Levi Brannam, owner of Brannam's Food Market, and moved to the Clegg home on Central Ave in Flagler Beach on Sep 1, 1954

In Nov 1967 he purchased the entire interest of The Flagler Tribune and was engaged full time with the Tribune and the development of his retail stores - Mrs Bette S McDaniel was to continue as news editor.

Some of Jack's businesses in Flagler CO (Clegg and Associates) were: The Bunnell Thriftway; Flagler ACE Hardware; Flagler Printers; Land N' Sea Fashions; Speedy Laundry; Jay's Laundry and Car Wash and Logan's Sales and Service.

Margaret was a graduate of Bunnell High School, served as general chairman of the March of Dimes, was secretary of the Bunnell Youth Council and served as secretary of Bunnell High School. Later she owned and operated the Land 'N' Sea Dress Shop in Bunnell. Issue;

Neva was a graduate of Bunnell High School and Florida Southern College. She taught school in Pierson, Boca Grande, Daytona Beach; was active in the Presbyterian Church and YWCA work in Daytona Beach. Issue;

Jim enlisted 24 Oct 1942 in the US Army Air Corps and served in Europe during WW II. She taught school in Bunnell and Hastings then owned a fabric shop in Bunnell. She was a member of the Bunnell Methodist Church. Issue;

Both he and Becky are buried Seville Cemetery, Seville, Volusia CO, FL.

Becky was a graduate of Sturgis High School and Maryville College, Maryville, TN. In 1950's, she was the Teen Age Director for the Daytona Beach YMCA.

He graduated from Bunnell High School in 1944 where he was active in the band and Future Farmers of America and from the University of FL with a BS degree in Agriculture in June 1950.

He served in the U S Army in the Pacific Theater including Okinawa, Marshall's, Saipan and Hawaii during W W II. He assumed operation of Clegg Farms upon his father's retirement. He served as president of Flagler County Chamber of Commerce, on first county zoning board, was bank director and Trustee of Bunnell Methodist Church and active in VFW. Issue 1st m.

5. Harry Franklin (Frank) Clegg, born 05 Feb 1928 Haw Creek, Flagler CO, FL, married Odella Strickland, dau of Marcus Carlton Strickland and Sadie Stone.

He was a graduate of Bunnell High School and a veteran of WW II. He was also a graduate of the College of Agriculture of the University of Florida. He was associated with Clegg Farms, worked as a forester in Hastings and New Smyrna Beach, then returned to Haw Creek and worked in construction. They are active in Community Baptist Church of Korona. Issue;

He is an attorney and an active member of the Florida Bar. Melissa is an ICU nurse at Flagler's Florida Hospital. Issue;

He worked for the Florida Department of Transportation. Dale is the author of "The Orphan Soldier," which centers around the life of Israel Pike as he fights for the southern forces in the Civil War. Dale is a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and a member of Company F, 7th FL Volunteer Infantry Re-actors. Tracey is a nurse. Issue;
