James H. Tucker, 48, died Sunday afternoon as the result of a boating mishap in Deal Lake at St. Johns Park. Tucker was fishing with a friend and her small daughter when the little girl fell overboard. He jumped into the water to save the girl and apparently drowned. Another boating party came to the assistance and the little girl was saved.

Tucker had served a prosecuting attorney in Flagler County Judges Court since 1967. He was also city attorney for both Flagler Beach and Bunnell. He has served as municipal judge at Flagler Beach and was secretary of the Flagler Recreation Advisory Board.

He was elected Sheriff of Volusia County when he was 28 years old and served in that capacity for four years. He received his law degree from Stetson University and was president of his senior graduating class. He taught in Volusia County Schools and was instructor of commercial law at Daytona Beach Junior College.

He was vice commander of Flagler Post No. 115 of the American Legion, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and was twice listed in Who’s Who of American Universities and Colleges. He has served as president of Phi Kappa Delta, Theta Alpha Phi, Pi Kappa Phi and Yemystic Krewe.

He served in the U. S. Navy in both European and Pacific theatres during World War II and spent two years in the Marine Corps Reserves.

Funeral services were held at W. Guy Black Funeral Chapel in Orlando at 11:00 A. M. Wednesday with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery in Orlando. Reverend Donald Foster, pastor of the First Baptist Church of Bunnell, where Tucker was a member, assisted in the services.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ellen of West Palm Beach; two sons, Michael, Bunnell, and John, Daytona Beach; parents, Reverend and Mrs. James P Tucker, Orlando and two brothers, Richard, Castleberry, and George, Lakeland.
