Both buried Hillside Cemetery, Ormond Beach, Volusia CO, FL.

The family is listed on page 11 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation given as "Druggist."

Tom Holden, a pharmacist in Palatka, Florida, came to Bunnell about 1915 according to an account in the Bunnell Home Builder of Sept 1916, "Mr. T. E. Holden, who has been employed by Mr. C. A. Smith, as pharmacist for the past year, has purchased the Smith Drug Store, and will conduct business in the same building under the name of Holden's Pharmacy."

An account of the construction of the new home of Mr. and Mrs. Holden was found in the early issues of 1918 of the Bunnell Home Builder. It was built east of the Pine Grove Inn by her father, Samuel Mervin Bortree and completed before his death in June 1918. Their residence is now the site of the Flagler County Historical Society and is open to the public currently (September 2007) every Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

In the Flagler Tribune of 22 Jan 1920, an account is given of Tom Holden's work as Mayor of Bunnell and he was named as a School Trustee on the cornerstone of Bunnell High School when it was erected in 1924. In Jul 1925, he was elected as a Bunnell City Councilman over W. E. Krudna to take the place of George Moody who resigned.

Probably one of the most important changes that has taken place in shifting of ownerships in Bunnell was consummated the latter part of last week when Mayor Tom E. Holden sold his drug and cold drink establishment of Mr. Max Joiner.

The sale does not mean that the town is to lose Mr. Holden for he will remain with the business as prescriptionst and will assist Mr. Joiner in the management.

Mr. Holden has built up one of the best paying businesses in Bunnell and his continuation with the establishment is very gratifying to the people of the entire county.

Mr. Joiner has assumed charge of the business and will devote most of his time to the conduct of the establishment. He is a young man of considerable ability and as a business man of the town will take an active interest in the affairs of Bunnell and Flagler County.

On Saturday afternoon in the director's room of the Bunnell State Bank two meetings took place that added something to the history of Flagler County and marked the retirement of Major J. F. Lambert and the Witham System of banks from the active field and saw the ushering in of a new regime, headed by Col. C. G. Varn and an entire new board of directors.

The deal was consummated when Messrs. Lambert, Knight, and Holden, joined by the Banker's Financing Company of Florida, the same representing the Witham System of Banks, sold in toto their holdings to Col. C. G. Varn and associates.

Col. C. G. Varn was immediately upon transfer of the stock, elected president and Mr. Walter Cody, of Haw Creek, vice-president.

The board of directors consists of the president and vice president and Messrs. F Burrell, H. W. Sessions, W. H. McKenzie, George Moody and R. L. Harper.

Work on the erection of the first pharmacy for Flagler Beach, to be known as the Flagler Beach Pharmacy and owned by Tom Holden of this city (Bunnell), started Monday, when the tile furnished by Moody and Gude, of which the building is to be constructed, was moved to the site preparatory to the actual construction.

The building which will be a 2-story structure, will be build facing Central Avenue and in the rear of the Moody apartment house at an approximate cost of $5,000 ........

T. E. Holden, owner of Holden's Pharmacy, has purchased the property on the northwest corner of Moody boulevard and State Road No 4, and will erect a modern building on that corner for his business.

The old residence which has occupied this corner for years is being moved to a new location two blocks south on Moody Boulevard. Work of moving the old building has been underway this week and rapid progress is being made, the entire building is being moved, including the chimneys.

Definite plans as to the size and number of stories which the new drug building will have when completed have not been determined, however it is thought that the building will be two stories high and to be constructed of brick, whether additional store rooms other than that for the drug store will be built has not been determined.

The new location is one of the best in Bunnell for this type of business it being located on the most accessible corner of the two main streets in town.

Most of the trees which surrounded the residence which is being moved have been taken up and transplanted at the new location. And when the new business building is finished it will add materially to the appearance of this part of the business district.

A contract was let this week by T E Holden for the erection of a new drug store building on the corner of Moody boulevard and State street, D. F. Fuquay, Flagler Beach architect and builder, was the successful bidder. Work of placing material and preliminary grade work will begin tomorrow, Mr. Holden said.

The building is to be one story in height, front facing State Street, and to be constructed of common and face brick, with plate glass display windows in front and on the Moody Boulevard side. The building is to be 45 feet wide and 65 feet long. However, only a little more than one half of the space will be used as a drug store. The building will house an additional store, and application for lease on that part of the building have already been made.

In the rear of the drug store ice cream manufacturing machinery will be installed and other conveniences as well as a stock room. The estimated cost of the structure is $10,000. And it is expected to be completed about the first of the year.

Holden operates two drug stores at present one here and one at Flagler Beach. The new building is not to house an additional store as the stock and fixtures from the present store here will be moved into the new building when completed.
