James Franklin Hull, son of William Franklin Hill and his wife Margaret Jane Harvey, born 10 May 1842, Columbia CO, FL, died 12 Sep 1926 on his farm in Flagler CO, FL, married 4 Oct 1866, Volusia CO, FL, Sarah Ann Elizabeth Smith, dau of John W. Smith and Nancy A. Smith, born 19 Mar 1842, GA, died 17 Jan 1921, Holly Hill, Volusia CO, FL. Both buried Pilgrim’s Rest Cemetery, Ormond Beach, Volusia CO, FL.
The family is listed on page 27 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation given "Farmer-General." They probably moved to this area soon after marriage for in a book "Florida Voter Registration Lists 1867-68," James F. Hull is registered in Precinct 6 (Haw Creek) Volusia County and states "time in county" as three years.
He and his brother William, migrated to the Volusia CO area in the early 1850's. When the Civil War erupted, James joined up and headed for the action. Most of his four years and eight months in the army were spent fighting around Virginia.
He served in the 8th FL Inf, Company D, under Capt. William Baya, from the spring of 1861 to Apr 10, 1865, when he was paroled at Appomattox Courthouse, VA. After the war, he walked home with a soldier from Orlando and one from Fort Christmas.
Shortly after returning, he married Sarah Ann Smith and they homesteaded on land over at DeLeon Springs; in those days it was still known as Spring Garden.
He was wounded three times in battle, as he stated on his application for a CSA pension dated Feb 25, 1907. He was granted a pension, certificate #2696.
The James F Hull Sons of the Confederate Veterans' Camp #1347 in Daytona Beach, Florida was named in his honor.
The family resided in the area of Volusia County that became Flagler County, near Lake Disston. Issue;
