George Elliott Allen
George Elliott Allen, son of Sumner Winn Allen and Maria McIntosh Winn of Liberty County, GA, was born 15 Feb 1881 in Cedartown, Polk CO, GA and died 19 June 1949 Flagler CO, FL as the result of an automobile accident just west of the Flagler Beach Bridge. He married 26 May 1906 in First Baptist Church, Jacksonville, FL, Ellen Louise (Nell) McIntosh, daughter of William Swinton McIntosh, CSA and Ida Sutherland Talley, born 6 Oct 1885 in Ridgeville, McIntosh CO, GA and died 08 Feb 1977 in Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. Both are buried in Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.
A news article in the July 31, 1919 edition of The Flagler Tribune states that “Mr. and Mrs. George Allen and their most interesting family of handsome young sons and daughters arrived in Bunnell Tuesday evening and at once occupied the new home acquired by Mr. Allen some ten days ago from Mr. Sessions. Mr. Allen and his family are quite an acquisition to the population of our city, and are welcomed by all.’
The family is listed on page 6 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation given as “r Stores.” In addition to being engaged in the turpentine industry he was a partner with Lawrence Sidney Cody in a stave mill in Bunnell. He became a large landowner, a cattleman and a farmer. The family resided in Bunnell where they were active in support of the Bunnell Methodist Church. George E. Allen was a member of the Board of County Commissioners of Flagler County 1931 until 1939, serving as chairman of the board in 1935 and 1937.
Nell was a "real daughter" of the General Joseph Eggleston Johnston Chapter #2317, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL joining on 26 Apr 1968 with eligibility based on the service record of William Swinton McIntosh, Company G, Regiment 5, GA Cavalry.

Both are buried in Espanola Cemetery, Flagler CO, FL.
Nell spent her childhood and early adult years in Bunnell where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bunnell. After graduating from Bunnell High School, she attended Florida State University in Tallahassee.
Upon her marriage to Arthur Henry Durshimer, she and her husband, who worked for the Florida Highway Department, moved to several locations in Florida wherever his work took them. He later worked for the Georgia Highway department and the family lived in several cities before settling in Albany, GA in 1942. Issue:

Ria was a graduate of Bunnell High School and attended the Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. In 1940 she became a member of the ice skating chorus and traveled all over the United States with The Ice Capades (1940-1945). She was spending her vacation from the Ice Capades in Bunnell in Aug 1944
She was a member of the General Joseph Eggleston Johnston Chapter #2317, United Daughters of the Confederacy, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL joining on 17 Oct 1969 with eligibility based on the service record of William Swinton McIntosh, Company G, 5th GA Cavalry Regiment.
In Feb 1960, Gov Leroy Collins appointed her to fill the unexpired term of Herschel King on the Flagler County Board of Public Instruction.
Albert spent his entire life in the area of Bunnell, FL and was a graduate of Bunnell High School. In 1947, he, his wife and daughter moved into their home on Anderson Street in Bunnell.
He was one of the leaders in the farming of potatoes and cabbage in the Bimini area and his farm is still being operated by his sons (1995).He was a director of the Hastings Potato Growers Association for a number of years and served on many farm related committees. He and his family were members of the Bunnell Methodist Church.

He was a 1964 graduate of Taylor DeWitt High School in Pearson, FL were he was a star district farmer. He attended Daytona Beach Junior College and in Mar 1967 was engaged in the fern business in Volusia CO. Doug was the owner of Prevatt's Flower Garden in Seville and was a Paramedic/EMT for Volusia CO for several years.
