The family is listed on page 26 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation given as "Farmer - General." He was listed on the 1910 census of St. Johns County, Precinct No.7 as single with his occupation given as "Clerk."
According to several newspaper accounts he operated the commissary for Utley J. White at Dupont from 1903 until White sold his holdings there in 1912, that he homesteaded land in the area later known as Codyville and he and his brother Larry operated a shingle mill there.
An article in the Bunnell Home Builder of July 1916 stated, "A new lumber company has recently been organized here, to be known as the Smith & Cody Lumber Company, with offices in BunnelL They have begun the operation of a sawmill at Codyville where they will manufacture all kinds of cypress lumber and shingles."( It is not known to which of the brothers this article referred)
He farmed in the Haw Creek area where the family resided. He served as a County Commissioner of Flagler County from Jan 1949 to Jan 1957. Issue;

Dick attended Bunnell High School and graduated from Bolles Military Academy in Jacksonville. He received a bachelor’s degree in agriculture engineering from the University of Florida. He was a farmer and rancher in Haw Creek.
During the late 1970's, he and his wife, Barbara, built Cody’s Corner Country Store, ending his days of farming cabbage and potatoes - - but he maintained a citrus grove, flower garden and tended to his yard. When Barbara died in 1994, he retired from the store and spent much of his time with family and wood crafting. Issue;
