W. A. Cookman

W. A. Cookman and his wife were very early residents of Ocean City (later the name was changed to Flagler Beach). They had purchased some land on the west side of the canal about a mile north of the present bridge, built a home and some rental cottages. They planted an orange grove.

They were mentioned in the Bunnell Home Builder as early as Mar 1913, where it stated that after only being here two years they have a fine young orange grove of 300 trees, besides a variety of other fruits. It is not known how many years they resided in the county but an entry in the 1920 census might possibly be Mr. and Mrs. Cookman, on page 18 is a Mr. Cookman as head of a household and a wife but first names were left blank and his occupation was not legible. Mr. and Mrs. Cookman sold their orange grove to Mr. W. H. McKenzie.
