Benjamin Davis

Benjamin Davis was born about 1845 in Ga and died about 1912 at Omega, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL and is buried at Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL. He was the son of George Washington Davis and Jane LNU, and married Nicy LNU, born about 1847, FL.

In May 1882 he purchased land in the Haw Creek section from James and Georgia Ann Burnsed and in Sept 1882 and Jan 1884 he sold the property to Jesse Malphurs. He moved to Crescent City where he was a constable for many years, returning to Omega and living with his brother Mathew. He is listed on page 62 of the 1910 census of St. Johns County, Haw Creek precinct, residing with his brother Mathew. Mr. and Mrs. Davis were the parents of five children;

1. William H. Davis, born about 1864, FL

2. James W. Davis, born about 1869, FL. He operated a restaurant in Jacksonville.

3. Georgia Ann Davis, born about 1873, FL, died 15 Nov 1925, Jackson CO, FL, married about 1888, John H Hyden, born Jan 1859, IN or KY, died 07 Dec 1934, Jackson CO, FL, both bur Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL. He came to the Haw Creek area from AL with two brothers, Henry and Vent and worked in the sawmill industry. The family later resided in Ormond Beach, Hastings, Ft. Lauderdale, Penile, and Jacksonville. In Jacksonville he worked as an oiler on the railroad. Issue;

(1) Jessie Oliver Hyden, born 08 Apr 1893, Haw Creek, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died Jul 1969, Miami, Dade CO, FL. He was a steamboat engineer and ship builder.

(2) Ona B Hyden, born 17 Dec 1895, Haw Creek, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died 1922 Jackson CO, FL

(3) Cecil Dewey Hyden, born 03 Sep 1898, Haw Creek, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died 25 Nov 1934, Jackson CO, FL. His 2nd marriage, Frances Swope. Issue;

Both buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL. She was the widow of Napoleon R. Mizelle. He was a farm laborer.
