George Washington Davis

George Washington Davis was born about 1829, GA and married Jane LNU.

The first record found on him in the Haw Creek area (later St. Johns Park) was on 06 Aug 1880, in the minutes of the Board of Public Instruction of St. Johns CO - - he was one of the three appointed as trustees for the Haw Creek School.

On the 1885 and 1895 tax rolls he was shown paying taxes on a tract of land by Hunter Branch. He was a farmer and also had a crew cutting cypress shingles. They were the parents of six children;

1. Benjamin Davis, born about 1845 GA, married Nicy. Issue; They had five children (See sketch on Benjamin Davis).

2. Joseph L. Davis, born about 1848, married Maggie.

3. James Davis, born about 1850, married Addie.

4. Rutha Davis, born 22 Mar 1853, TX, died 02 June 1914, Delray Beach, Palm Beach CO, FL, married about 1871, Jesse Valentine Malphurs, son of Edward Malphurs and Elizabeth LNU, born 05 Dec 1837, Ware CO, GA, died 07 Sep 1911, FL. 5. Mathew (Mack) Davis, born Sept 1854, FL, died 1925, St Johns Park, Flagler CO, FL, married 16 Sept 1882, St Johns Park, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL Frances E (Fannie) Burnsed, dau of David Molton and Susan Burnsed, born 03 Nov 1861, GA, died 16 Aug 1914, St Johns Park, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL. Both buried Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL. Issue; They had 12 children (See sketch on Mathew Davis for more information on this family).

6. Lucinda Davis, born 08 Apr 1868, TX, died 25 Dec 1935, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL, married 1888 Haw Creek, St Johns, now Flagler CO, FL, Henry Wesley Hyden, born Mar 1861, KY, died 25 Feb 1948, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL. Both buried Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL.

He came to the Haw Creek area in the 1880's with his brothers, John and Vent, and worked in the saw mill industry. The family moved to Volusia CO then to Jacksonville. Issue;

(1) Hazel Hyden, born 23 May 1893, Haw Creek, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died 27 Jun 1908, FL, buried Groover Cemetery, Ormond Beach, Volusia CO, FL.

(2) Elzie Hyden, born Apr 1898 Haw Creek, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died 25 Jan 1955, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL, buried Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL, married about 1928, Mabel LNU, born about 1920, FL Issue;
