Amos S. Fowler

Amos S. Fowler, son of Charles M Fowler and Melvina E Whitney, born 03 Aug 1868, Plymouth, Juneau CO, WI, died 08 Mar 1954, East Coast Hospital, St Augustine, St Johns CO, FL, married Louise Katherina Neururer, dau of Saturninus E Neururer and Mary Moeckel, born 28 Sep 1872, Elroy, Juneau CO, WI, died 02 Aug 1946, St Johns CO, FL. Both buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

The family is listed on page 12 of the 1920 census of Flagler County. They came to this county from Elroy, WI about 1916 and lived on the Deen Road just west of Bunnell. He was a retired railroad conductor when he came to Bunnell

According to several accounts in the Bunnell Home Builder of 1917-18, he farmed and raised some stock. The 1920 census gave his occupation as "Superintendent of the County Prison" and in the Flagler Tribune he is named as the "Road Superintendent."

The Canvassing Board of Flagler CO, FL, on 6 Mar 1919, found that the 4 Mar 1919 election to fill the position of state representative vacated by the death of II Moody, was won by A S Fowler over F L Byrd.

In Oct 1921, he purchased a small herd of Florida raised cattle near Gainesville and brought them to Flagler CO, FL about 3 miles west of Bunnell

He was the State Representative from Flagler County for two terms in the early 1920's.

Amos was the pioneer dairyman of Flagler CO, having been actively involved in the business since 1919. He began with only two or three cows and increased his from that number to 53. For a number of years he sold the output of the diary at retail in Bunnell, but since 1924, he had been selling all the milk to the East Coast Creamery of Daytona Beach. In Jan 1926, he sold his entire dairy her and equipment to Dr E A Thayer of Urbania, IL.

In Nov 1927, he opened his new store on Deen Road. The building was 26 feet by 50 feet assuring ample room for the large line of groceries and feed which the firm handled. They handled exclusively the J H Wilkes Company feeds and flour, he selling many tons of the brand of feed to dairymen and poultry men in Flagler CO when he operated his old store.

In Apr 1931, he was appointed to represent the Brotherhood of Railway Trainmen at the Florida legislature during the session being held at that time

They were the parents of two children;

Charles Erwin was a mail carrier on the rural route in now Flagler CO, FL until the later part of 1917 when he enlisted in the US Navy. Bunnell was shown as his home of record when he enlisted. Following WWI he returned home from service to work for the Postal Railway Service.

In Apr 1928 he left Bunnell with his family for Haines City, FL where they were to make their future home. He had been a United States railway mail clerk for a number of years, running on the Florida East Coast railroad, but was transferred to a run from Haines City and return each day. Issue;

She was reared in Lakeland and was graduated from Lakeland High School. She received her degree from Florida State University where she majored in art. During her freshman year she won the talent award in art and during her senior year was a member of the staff of the Flambeau, college paper.

She has also studied at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota. In May 1951, she was an instructor in art at Hillsborough High School in Tampa.

He graduated from Plant High School in Tampa and received his BS degree from the University of Florida where he was a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity. During WW II he served three years with US Army in the Pacific.

In May 1951, he was associated in business with his father in the firm of Bishop and Perry. Issue;

Evelyn Adeline Fowler, born about 1914, Elroy, Juneau CO, WI, married 12 Jun 1932, Baptist Parsonage, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, Frederick Folks (Fred) White, son of J Barney White and Ardella (Della) Pellicer, born about 1910, Nahunta, Brantley CO, GA, died 27 Nov 1967, Holly Hill, Orangeburg CO, SC, buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

He moved to Bunnell from Nahunta in 1937. He was an employee of Lehigh Portland Cement Company and the manager of the Super Test Station in Bunnell. He was a member of the Bunnell First Baptist Church. Issue;

He was a 1951 graduate of Bunnell High School, and in Nov 1953, was employed with the Lehigh Cement Plant in Flagler CO, FL. She was a member of the 1953 graduating class of Bunnell High School and in Nov 1953 was employed as secretary of the school. Issue;

A. Pamela Gail White, born 02 Aug 1955, Flagler Hospital, St Augustine, St Johns CO, FL, married 19 Dec 1976, First Baptist Church, Holly Hill, Orangeburg CO, SC, John David Barrett, son of William Edmond Barrett, born 15 Feb 1955, Denver, Adams or Arapahoe CO, CO.

She received an AA degree 11 May 1975 from Anderson College. Named as Who's Who Among American Junior Colleges in Mar 1975. She attended Baptist College at Charleston, SC and he attended Southeastern Baptist Seminary. Issue;
