Mary Franskowick

Mary Franskowick was born 22 Dec 1887, IL and came to this area of St. Johns County with the first Polish families to settle in Korona. She died 15 Nov 1868, St Petersburg, Pinellas CO, FL, buried St Mary’s Cemetery, Korona, Flagler CO, FL.

She is found on page 24 of the 1920 census of Flagler County and her occupation is given as "Postmistress." See the sketch on Jan (John) Czyzycki for more information on the early settlers of Korona and the building of the church and a duplex for their priest. The postoffice was located in the duplex.

"Miss Mary" as she was affectionately called, was the organist for St. Mary's Catholic Church and it is recorded that "the first mass was celebrated with much pomp and ceremony" as she sang the mass. The church was the focal point for the community and Miss Mary was very active in the work of the church.
