Charles Perry McCullar
Charles Perry McCullar, son of Jackson (John) McCullar and Tabitha Byrd was born 03 May 1835, Blackshear, Pierce CO, GA, died 07 Mar 1886, Hastings, St Johns CO, FL. He married Mary Caroline Wasdin, dau of Thomas William Wasdin and Mary Ann Mobley, born 03 Jul 1840, Blackshear, Pierce CO, GA, died 15 Jun 1922, Daytona, Volusia CO, FL. Both are buried at Pellicer Creek Cemetery, St Johns CO, FL.
Perry McCullar enlisted in the Confederate Army at Appling CO, GA as a private in 1st Regiment, Ga State Troops, later a 5th Sergeant of Co K, 54th Regt Ga Inf, surrendered at Tallahassee, FL, 10 May 1865 and paroled at Thomasville, GA on 18 May 1865.
An article in the Palatka Daily News in 1948, quoted Charles Henry McCullough of Hastings, son of Perry McCullar, at the age of 81, recalling the family's move to Florida from Georgia.
The family was living in a sparsely settled area on the west side of Crescent Lake, when the seventh child was born in 1867, the father decided to move to the east side of the lake and settled in what would later be known as St Johns Park. They had range cattle, a hog claim, a vegetable farm and only a few neighbors. It is not known how long the family resided there before making another move to an area known as Cow Pen Branch, close to present Hastings in St Johns County.
Members of the family used both spellings of the name, McCullar and McCullough. Issue;
