James C. Miller was born June 1848 Ga, died 10 Dec 1929 Daytona, married 1870 Annie E. Burnsed (Burnside) born Feb 1855 Ga, died 24 Oct 1927 Hastings, dau of Susan Burnside. Both buried Espanola Cemetery.
The family is listed on page 83 of the 1900 census of St. Johns County residing in tlle Haw Creek area with his occupation given as "Farmer" and on page 32 of the 1920 census of Flagler County with his occupation given as "Farmer - General." They were among the first permanent settlers in the Haw Creek area and are found on the 1885 tax roll of St. Johns Co as paying taxes on land in Section 24, Township 12, Range 29 E.
The family lived in Ft. Lauderdale and Daytona for several years before moving back to Flagler County and farming in the Black Point area, them moving to Hastings.
In 1898, Mr Miller helped John Baggs Johnston and James Auldridge Hunter build the log school house close to their homes for the first school in that area. According to the 1910 Census, Mr and Mrs Miller were the parents of 15 children, 11 of whom were living at that time. Issue;

The family is listed on page 35 of the 1920 census of Flagler County residing in Precinct #4 with his occupation given as "Teaming - Drainage Co" and her occupation given as "Cook - Dredge Camp."
He worked dredging canals in Hastings and Bunnell areas and she cooked for the crews, farmed in the Black Point area before moving to Flagler Beach, working as caretaker of McKenzie's Orange Grove on the Intracoastal Canal on Roberts Road.
He was known to hundreds of friends simply as "Uncle Joe" and became widely known during the eight years he was bridge tender at the Flagler Beach Bridge. Here he met and formed friendships with many people from all over the country who came to fish in the waterway. He retired in 1945. Issue;

He was a US Navy diver (demolition) in WWII. After the war he worked at Marineland (a tourist attraction between Flagler Beach and St. Augustine) diving and feeding the fish.
His wife and he owned and operated several restaurants at Flagler Beach. He had one on the corner of A1A and 8th St in Flagler Beach which was taken over by Mrs Anne Daugherty in Nov 1948
I (Claude Sisco Deen, Jr) can recall eating at the restaurant they owned at A1A and State Road 100 in Flagler Beach many times with my great Aunt and Uncle C.O. and Pauline Magee when I was a small boy.
The restaurant on A1A and Moody Blvd (SR100). was called the A1A Restaurant and Motel and was closed for renovations in Dec 1961 and re-opened for business on 18 Jan 1963, hours were 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The old restaurant had a face lift about 1998 and a deck was added on top. It was called Finnagan’s and now (Jan 2009) after more renovations it is called Finn’s.

He farmed with his father before enlisting in the Navy in WW I. He died of meningitis in 1918 while stationed at Norfolk, VA. He was the first (and to my knowledge, the only) Flagler County Soldier to die while serving his country in WW I. In 1919, the local American Legion named their post in his honor.

Daulphus, or Dell as he was called, lived on several farms in Flagler County, FL where he was employed by Robert Wallace (Rob) Deen, William Henry (Doc) Deen, and Raymond Tucker. In 1920, he was serving with the US Navy based at Olongapo, Philippine Islands. He returned to Flagler CO where he was a member of one the first baseball teams in Bunnell. Issue

He retired as a maintenance supervisor for the Oak Crest Lumber Company in Oak Crest, GA. Issue;
