Robert Moody, son of Isaac I Moody, CSA and Martha Elmira Miles, born 15 Sep 1876, Appling CO, GA died 21 Oct 1918, Flagler CO, FL, married 24 Mar 1898, Martha Nancy (Mattie) Barber, dau of John Benjamin Barber and Mary Smith born 10 May 1880, Baxley, Applngs CO, GA, died 10 Jun 1947, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL. Both are buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

According to articles in the Bunnell Home Builder, the family moved to Bunnell around 1913 (note: from Volusia CO) and built their home.

He worked with his brother Isaac I Moody, Jr. Isaac Moody came to Bunnell in 1898 when the turpentine business was getting under way and worked a time for George W Deen. His brothers George and Robert arrived in 1904.

He registered on a list of Registered Voters for the Town of Bunnell, December 1, 1915 with his occupation given as “Turpentine.”

Robert was a Charter Member Bunnell Lodge #200 F & A M and she was a Charter Member of Bunnell Chapter No. 93, Order of Eastern Star (see sketch on John Benjamin Barber for more information on the Barber family).

Mr and Mrs Moody were the parents of eight children;

In 1918, he was employed as an assistant cashier for the Bunnell State Bank. In the 1920 census of Flagler County the family is listed on page 15 with his occupation given as "Proprietor - Gen Mdse," with his widowed mother and her children living in the household, also her brother.

On 19 Jan 1922, he removed to Favorita where he accepted management of George Moody's turpentine still.

In Apr 1926, while surveying near the old Spanish Sugar Mills near Bulow, he ran across and old plough that was used on the Bulow plantation for cultivation of sugarcane and cotton about 1831 - the brand which, as nearly as could be deciphered was "Fell-rnfi Hitchcockfi New York 1831.

He was appointed Flagler CO, FL tax assessor in 1932 to succeed Hobart Barber who died in office and served in the position for 26 years, electing not to run for re-election in the Fall of 1963.

His surveys of early Spanish and British land grants in Flagler, St Johns, and Volusia counties led to an interest in preserving the history of this part Florida. Dewey was one of the founders of the Volusia Hammock State Park Association which acquired the Bulow Ruins and Tomoka State Park and other historic sites in Flagler and Volusia counties.

Mrs Moody moved to Orlando in 1965. She was a member of Bunnell First United Methodist Church and a former member of Order of Eastern Star, Colony Club and the Idlewood Club.

In Apr 1939, she won second prize in a contest sponsored by the Spanish-American War Veterans in Daytona Beach - she rendered a solo on the Hawaiian guitar.

Iona was a delegate to American Legion Auxiliary Girls State in Tallahassee in July 1947. She received her BA degree from Florida State and later did graduate work in bacteriology (5.5 years)

In Sep 1955, she was a registered lab tec in Jacksonville and was selected to take a 3 months course at Cornell Medical College in NY. In 1957 she was employed by Orange Memorial Hospital in Orlando, FL. She was a laboratory manager in Orlando with Humana Hospital/Lucerne for 17 years retiring in 1992.

She returned to Flagler CO in 1995 and was the first woman elected to the East Flagler CO Mosquito Board. She also worked as a real estate agent for Century 21 - Coach Real Estate Company.

In Mar 1936 he was studying pharmacy at Crow's School in Atlanta, GA. He had studied in Rhode Island several years and had a number of years work experience in Daytona Beach, working at Hankin's pharmacy and later with Leggett's.

In Dec 1937, he was a druggist at Bennett's Drug Store in Jacksonville, FL. Annie was a cashier at Bennett’s at this same time.

Earl moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1958 from Tavenier where he had operated a drug store and was owner and manager of The Prescription Center in New Smyrna.

He was a member of the Florida State Pharmaceutical Association, Elks Florida Keys Lodge 1872 of Tavenier, Civitan International, and the Chamber of Commerce of New Smyrna.

Her father, Robert, named the lake in front of Bunnell City Hall, Lake Lucille for her. She was city clerk for Bunnell from about 1938 until she resigned on May 15, 1951. She was active in the Eastern Star and was a past matron of the local chapter. She was a member of the First Methodist Church.

In Mar 1936 he ran a pool hall in Bunnell, FL. In the Flagler Tribune of 01 Nov1979 there is a half page story devoted to Robert Moody, Jr which says that he spent about 15 years in the snake business and has owned as many as 75 rattlesnakes at one time. He lost an eye about 1974 but, according to the story, he still stayed in the snake business.

In The History of Flagler County, which he wrote about 1980, he says that he was a special Deputy Sheriff for Flagler CO for about 30 years and that during the WW II years, these Special Deputies were used for beach patrol. These deputies also assisted with the recovery of crashed aircraft from the local naval air field (now Flagler CO Airport).

Bobby says that he worked for his brother Dewey in the surveying business several times during the years but things did not go well as he and his brother couldn’t work together.

He graduated from Bunnell High School in Jun 1955 and enlisted in the US Army 16 Sep 1955 and re-enlisted on 16 Dec 1958 for another 3 years - he was serving in the Panama Canal Zone at this time. In Nov 1967 he was stationed at Fort Monroe, VA and had served on assignments in Panama Canal Zone, Laos, Thailand, Philippines, and France.

Robert received the Bronze Star for meritorious service in connection with military operations against hostile forces in Vietnam while assigned with the Directorate of Replacement Operations, U S Army, Vietnam. He retired from the Army in Dec 1975 as a Master Sergeant.

She was a 1956 graduate of Bunnell High School and in Jan 1957 was employed by the Medical Arts Pharmacy in St Augustine, FL. She later worked for Moody’s Pharmacy in Bunnell and then served as a pharmacy technician at the Bunnell Pharmacy for over 40 years.

Marie served as president of the Bunnell Pioneers, served as a board member on the Espanola Cemetery Association and was an active member of the Flagler County Historical Society. Issue;
