Orville Clay Mosby

Orville Clay Mosby, son of Jefferson D Mosby, CSA and Mary Elizabeth Endicott, born May 1870, Newton Township, Barton CO, MO, died 03 Feb 1946, Black Point, Flagler CO, FL, married Minnie Lenora Davidson, dau of John Norman Davidson and Queen Eliza Kilgore, born 17 Oct 1873, Cass CO, MO, died 31 Oct 1955, St Luke’s Hospital, Jacksonville, Duval CO, FL. Both buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

In a 1980 interview for a story by Elizabeth Knapp in The Flagler Tribune, on their son, Richard Randall (Dick) Mosby, Dick said he came to Florida with his parents in 1912.

The family was living in Idaho a doctor advised the family that his mother, Minnie Davidson Mosby, did not have much longer to live and they should get her to a better climate for her last days.

A brochure for the Bunnell Development Company made them decide on Bunnell and they bought a farm at Black Point. Florida gave his mother 50 more years, she lived to be 82. Orville was one of the early truck farmers in the area.

In the Aug 1913 edition of the Bunnell Home Builder, it states that “Mr O C Mosby of Black Point continues buying milk cows preparatory to entering the dairy business. The people of Bunnell are anxiously awaiting the day when he will furnish them with fresh milk and butter. Mayor Heath says if Mosby will furnish him all the buttermilk he can drink he will be satisfied for life.”

The family was involved in the formation of the local Seventh Day Adventist Church and the erection of the building in the winter of 1917.

Orville Clay Mosby served as an elder in the church and his daughter, Nellie Mosby Miller, was named as the clerk of the church in Jan 1919. Mr and Mrs Mosby were the parents of seven children;

Ira Sylvester Mosby married before 1930, Elsie (LNU), born about 1886, KS. She was previously married to Quincy Cowart and they had a son Glen Coward, born about 1915, FL

Mosby, born 08 Jan 1896, Cass CO, MO, died 26 Apr 1987 Volusia CO, FL, married 01 Jul 1915, Daulphus Dell Miller son of James C Miller and Annie Eliza (Burnside) Burnsed, born 08 Dec 1898, Bunnell, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died 05 May 1972, Bunnell General Hospital, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL (Div).

Daulphus, or Dell as he was called, lived on several farms in Flagler County, FL where he was employed by Robert Wallace (Rob) Deen, William Henry (Doc) Deen, and Raymond Tucker. In 1920, he was serving with the US Navy based at Olongapo, Philippine Islands. He returned to Flagler CO where he was a member of one the first baseball teams in Bunnell. Issue

(1) Minnie Lenore Miller, born 26 May 1916, Bunnell, St Johns now Flagler CO, FL, died 17 Sep 2002, Indigo Manor, Daytona Beach, Volusia CO, FL, married 1932, John Edward Lewis.

She was the owner/operator of Bunnell Dry Cleaners and was a seamstress in Holly Hill, FL from 1992 until her death. Issue;

Minnie Miller Lewis married 2nd, William Austin (Bill) Henderson, born 01 Jan 1919, SC, died 16 Jun 1971, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL.

He moved to Bunnell from Mayo, Florida in 1970. He was owner and operator of the Bunnell Dry Cleaners and Bunnell Laundromat. He was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 673, Jacksonville. His children were Thelma Jean Henderson, Martha Henderson and William A Henderson, Jr.

They resided at Flagler Beach and operated a grocery store at Central Ave and South 3rd Street for many years. The building was built by Tom E Holden in 1925 and he operated a pharmacy on the ground floor and had apartments on the second floor.

I (Claude Sisco Deen, Jr) have a fond spot in my heart for Mr and Mrs Mosby. They were always nice to the youngsters in the community and it was at their store that the high school students caught the bus to go to school in Bunnell.

Dick served as Flagler Beach City Judge for 8 years and served on the city commission for 18 years. Issue;

(1) Patricia Lenora (Patsy) Mosby, born 08 Jun 1938, Flagler Beach, Flagler CO, FL, married about Jun 1957, Jerry G Davis, son of Sam Davis.

She was Salutatorian for the 1956 graduating class of Bunnell High School, captain of the cheerleaders, and attended Girls State in 1955. She was voted Miss Flagler County of 1955. He served in the USMC. Issue

(1) Ronald C Mosby, born about 1932, FL. He was serving in the US Army in 1950

7. Fannie Mosby, born 14 Jul 1911, ID, died 28 Dec 1995, Seminole CO, FL. She was employed by the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Tampa and in Oct 1961 was transferred to San Bernardino, CA. She was living in Orlando Feb 1992.
