Charles Frederick Palmquist

Charles Frederick Palmquist was born 02 Feb 1851, Gavle, Vexer, Sweden, and died 12 Nov 1936, Flagler CO, FL, buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler CO, FL. He married Petronilla (Nelly) Andersson (Andersdotter?) born about 1861, Sweden, died about 1896, Chicago, Cook CO, IL.

Charles was one of eleven children. In Sweden the family name was Johanason but when he his three brothers and sister came to the United States around 1879, they took the name of either Palmer or Palmquist as their last name.

He first lived in Chicago, Illinois, then Niles, Michigan where he was engaged in the real estate business.

The family moved to Florida for his second wife's health about 1917, first residing in National Gardens where he purchased several parcels of land. He also land bought land in the Tomoka area of Volusia CO and at Gore Lake next to the present-day Flagler CO Airport.

He then purchased a tract of land one-half mile east of the Sonny Malphurs farm in Flagler County. Following this purchase, the family moved to the area, cut trees from the property for the lumber and Mr Palmquist and his sons built their home where he farmed for a few years, before entering the real estate business then was engaged in clothing sales.

He was a licensed Methodist Minister and sometimes preached at Haw Creek Methodist Church. The family were members of the Haw Creek Methodist Church and she taught a Sunday School class, worked with the Dorcas Society and member of the Ever Ready Society.

4. Mamie Elvira Palmquist, born about 1888, Chicago, Cook CO, IL, died about 1913, Chicago, Cook CO, IL

5. Joseph Emmanuel Palmquist, born 11 Sep 1890, Chicago, Cook CO, IL, died 24 Aug 1966, Chicago, Cook CO, IL. In 1917, he was married with two children and worked as a cashier

6. Ruth Amelia Palmquist, born 31 May 1892, Chicago, Cook CO, IL, died Jun 1963, Chicago, Cook CO, IL, married Lemuel Preston Nichols, son of Lamuel Nichols and Hannah Clausen, born 07 Dec 1872, Manitowoc, WI, died before 16 Jul 1928, Cook CO, GA. In 1930, Ruth was widowed and was working as a maid in a hotel. Issue;

He moved to Flagler Co with his parents but returned to Chicago in 1927 and enjoyed a successful career in sales. Issue;

He moved to Flagler County with his parents, returned to Chicago in 1928, later returning here and was employed by George Biddle at the Gulf Station in Bunnell, before working for Hooper Construction Company and Langley Construction Company in Miami.

Earl worked at various jobs in Bunnell before moving to Alabama and working for the Hooper Construction Co, which took them to several locations throughout the southern United States. He then worked in Jacksonville for the Government at the Naval Air Station until he retired.

Earl V. Palmquist married 2nd, 05 Apr 1986, United Methodist Church, Bunnell, Flagler CO, FL, Marjorie Carolyn Holland, dau of Zachary Grantham Holland and Flora Maud Deen.

Marjorie owned and operated two florist shops in Jacksonville. She was first married to Boyd Cordell Robertson. They had three children (See sketch on Zachary G. Holland for more information on this family).
