Nathan Enoch Roberts


Nathan Enoch Roberts, son of David B. Roberts and Mary Dobson, was born on 15 Aug 1856 in Baker County, Florida and died on17 Mar 1946 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin and was buried there, He married on 11 Jun 1882 in Columbia County, Florida, Ophelia Brown, daughter of David Chappel Brown and Henrietta Hatcher who was born on 23 Feb 1858 in Columbia County, Florida and died on 22 Apr 1921 in Haw Creek, Flagler County, Florida. She is buried in Seville Cemetery, Seville, Volusia County, Florida.

The family moved to the Haw Creek section in 1885 and bought the farm just north of the Knight homestead.

When Flagler County was created in 1917, Nathan was appointed by Governor Sidney Johnston Catts as a County Commissioner from the Haw Creek District and was elected to another term in 1921.

In May 1922, he acquired the holdings of Claude Varn in the Pidcock‑Ochre Mines south of Bunnell and assumed joint directorship of that institute with his son David Roberts. He later moved to Jacksonville where he resided until1928. In the 1930 census, he is living in Milwaukee with his second wife with his occupation listed as real estate salesman.

1. David Brown Roberts was born on 24 Jun 1883 in Clinch County, Georgia and died on 13 Aug 1952 in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida. He was married on 28 Feb 1930 in Jacksonville, Duval County, Florida to Aida Eleanor Dean, daughter of Charles F. Dean and Emma Frances Welch. Aida was on born 11 Nov 1889 in El Monte, Los Angeles County, California and died on 29 Mar 1957 in Plant City, Hillsborough County, Florida. Both buried Hope Cemetery, now Flagler Palms Memorial Gardens, Flagler County, Florida.

In Sep 1918, David was single and working for a construction company as a draftsman in New Orleans

In Jun 1924, he purchased the old school house in Flagler Beach, Florida and was going to convert it into an office and living quarters. An article in The Flagler Tribune of 12 June 1924 states: "Mr. Robert’s property will adjoin the circular park, which when developed, will be a prominent feature of the town."

In was reported in The Flagler Tribune of 19 June 1924, that AD. B. Roberts, assisted by D Moody, has been surveying five acres of land in south Bunnell, for Mrs. Louetta Cochran, the owner. The plot of ground will be used for a colored settlement.

He had a home at Lakewood, on the banks of the East Coast Canal in Flagler County FL and was considered one of the most competent civil engineers ever to reside in the county, and until 1930, was the engineer for the county

Nathan Enoch Roberts, married 2nd, about 1928, Edith A. Wood, daughter of James Henry and Jennie M. Wood who born on 21Apr 1881 in Wisconsin and who died on 01 Feb 1946 in Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin. They both are buried in Forest Hope Cemetery, Milwaukee, Milwaukee County, Wisconsin.
