Oscar Decalb Robertson
Oscar Decalb Robertson, son of Pinkney Y. Robertson and Georgia Ann Conaway, was born on 07 Mar 1890 in Wesobulga, Clay County, Alabama and died on 31 Oct 1974 in the Bimini Farming Section of Flagler County, Florida. He married on 26 Dec 1912 at his parents’ home in Ashland, Clay County, Alabama, Bertha Mercer, daughter of Saul Caraway Mercer and Queen Victoria Musselwhite. Sarah was born on 16 Apr 1888 in Lumberton, Robeson County, North Carolina and died on 17 Mar 1970 in the Bunnell General Hospital, Bunnell, Flagler County, Florida. Both are buried Espanola Cemetery, Espanola, Flagler County, Florida.
The following narrative information was provided by Marjorie Carolyn Holland Robertson Palmquist (1922-2009):
Mr. Robertson had farmed in Georgia and Alabama and in March 1921 he came to Flagler County in search of work. Unable to find work, he was returning to Georgia when he read an advertisement in the Jacksonville paper by Mr. Henry W. Poff who was looking for a farm worker. He returned and secured the job for $2 per day and a house. In July 1921, his wife and four oldest children joined him in Orange Hammock.
Due to ill health, Mr. Poff quit farming and returned North. Mr. Robertson then worked for Mr. Hervey Alexander (Mutt) Eisenbach, whose farm was across the road from the Poff farm growing Irish potatoes for $125 per month, for one year.
He next worked at Codyville for Mr. Larry Cody, growing potatoes, but excessive rains rained out the crop so the family moved in May 1924 to Bimini to form for Mr. Harvey Tanner, an attorney from Palatka.
They lived in a three room house while a new house was being built. This dwelling which is located one half mile east of county road 305 on SR 100 is still occupied and is now known as the Neilson Place (1994). Mr. Robertson made three potato crops there and was paid $125 per month plus ten cents per barrel.
The family then moved three miles west on SR 100 to a house built by the Haynes Brothers (later occupied by Tom Cobb) and farmed there. Times were hard and Mrs Robertson and the children had to help out when needed, as so many farm families of that time had to do ‑‑ they farmed with mules and had a cow and chickens. Finally one year they made several thousand dollars, a lot of money at that time, and deposited it in a bank in Hastings only to lose it in the crash ‑‑ all that was left of that banner year was the new Whippet automobile he had purchased.
Sometime later Mr. Robertson purchased the adjoining property and built a home that the family moved into in 1937, living there until Mr. and Mrs. Robertson died. In 1994 it was occupied by Greg.
In 1994, son Lloyd, and grandsons, Boyd, Gregory, Stanford and Kirk were farming in Bimini and the St Johns Park area.

Ed graduated with the class of 1956, Oceanside High School, Oceanside, Calafornia. Upon graduation, he came to live with his grandparents, Henry and Francis Zeller in Bunnell, Florida.
In September 1960, he purchased the lease and equipment of the Pure Oil Station on the corner of U.S. 1 and Moody Blvd in Bunnell from Henry Richard. Ed operated Ed's Pure Oil at this intersection throughout the 1960's and 70's. He shared his interest in anything with wheels with many of the area's teenagers at the time educating them in his own form of "automotive science."
In an ad in the Flagler Tribune of 23 Sep 1969, he announced that Ed's Pure Oil in Bunnell had been sold and that he has opened Ed's Pure Oil in Ormond on the corner of Nova Road and Tomoka Avenue.
When Flagler County began to grow and Palm Coast was established, Ed operated the first service station located there, Parkway Exxon, for 15 years. He then became a scale operator for the Flagler County Landfill. Ed was one of the individuals who founded the King’s Men Car Club in the 1960's and could be found most weekends at the organized drag races the group sponsored at the Flagler County Airport.
He served as a City Commissioner for the City of Bunnell and also served on numerous committees throughout the years including the Beautification Committee of the city. Issue;

Boyd moved to Flagler County with his family from Georgia in 1921. In 1949, he and Marjorie bought the Tom Cobb house and 40 acres of land and built a home on the property adjoining his parents’ home were they farmed.
Marjorie owned and operated two flower shops in Jacksonville. The family was life-time members of Bunnell Methodist Church where she was very active in church work. Issue;

Boyd received a B S Degree in Agriculture Engineering from University of Florida, served two years in the U S Army in Korea and Hawaii, returned to University of Florida and obtained a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked as an engineer for US Sugar Corporation in Clewiston and FMC Cooperation in Jonesboro, Arkansas before returning to Flagler County to farm with his father.
Elissa graduated from Palm Beach Junior College as a registered nurse and later received a B. S. degree in nursing from Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, Arkansas. Issue;

Loyd was married on 10 Nov 1946 in West Palm Beach, Palm Beach County, Florida to Edyth Rebecca Williams, daughter of Robert Stanford Williams and Inez Summerall who was born on 28 Mar 1928 in Appling County, Georgia and who died on 08 Jun 2022 at her home in Bunnell, Florida. She is buried in Espanola Cemetery, Flagler CO, FL.
He served in the U S Army in W W II in the Pacific Theater, in the Philippines and the occupation forces in Japan. The family resided in Bimini Section where he farms. They were members of the Bunnell Methodist Church where Edyth was very active in the church work. Issue;

Kirk attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina and the University of Florida and received an A. S. degree in drafting and construction design from the St. Johns River Community College in Palatka. Putnam County, Florida. The family resided in probably the oldest continually occupied dwelling in Flagler County built by Tom Squier in St. Johns Park (aka as the Davis House - located on CR 2006 east of Bull Creek). Melissa was a graduate of the Briarwood School in Palatka, Florida and attended St. Johns River Community College. In 1979 she was employed in the Flagler County Tax Collector’s Office. Michael was a graduate of the Briarwood School in Palatka, Florida and in 1979 was employed with the Robertson Farms in Flagler County, Florida.
Melissa married 2nd on 28 Jan 1989 in Flagler County, Florida to Morris Bohnson Tesh who was born on 09 Sep 1959.
