M/Sgt. BEN CLIFTON writes his wife (the former Jennie Moody) that "Jap hunting over here is more sport than rabbit hunting at home, except the rabbits don't shoot back at you." He is with an army division in the SWP.

December 21, 1944

AWARDED BRONZE STAR IN PACIFIC

First Sergeant BEN F. CLIFTON, JR., has been awarded the Bronze Star medal for "meritorious achievement" in the battle for Peleliu Island," his wife, Mrs. Jennie Clifton here, said today.

Sgt. Clifton is an infantryman and has also won the coveted combat infantryman's badge in addition to a citation.

April 26, 1945

First Sergeant BEN CLIFTON has been awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Peleliu last September. He previously had been awarded the Bronze Star and Combat Infantryman Badge. His wife, the former Jennie Moody, resides here.
