Paul Hammons

November 11, 1943

Pvt. PAUL HAMMONS, located at Sheppard Field, Texas, writes to Sheriff and Mrs. W. H. Wells here (with whom he stayed for several months a couple of years ago) that he has now been in the army for some time and in technical training school. He said he has just taken his examinations for foreign service "but I don't know yet whether I will go or not. If I'm assigned to a glider, I'll know where I am going." Paul attended school while here and he asked Sheriff Wells about Principal J. F. (Prof) Houck. Apparently he had not heard of his death. Paul also asked for a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Wells "something to have with me if I do go any place." The Tribune is being sent to him as a gift from "Henry and Luke."

Sheriff Henry Wells informs us that he has just received a letter from PAUL HAMMONS, a young man whom he and Mrs. Wells befriended here a couple of years ago. He is in the army and stationed in Missouri. Paul said "I wish I was back in good old Bunnell, where it is warm. And I could enjoy some of those good breakfasts. Some of these days I am going to walk in on you and give you both the surprise of your life."
