Edward John Heney

Also a letter from Capt. EDWARD J. HENEY formerly bandmaster in Bunnell high school. Capt. Heney told his father here that he is now in North Africa, and said "I read the paper from cover to cover and all the news is most interesting. Bunnell and the citizens therein have always meant a lot to me, consequently.

It is of personal interest to read about them in the columns of your newspaper. It was shortly after I left your school system that I entered the army. Since then I have been serving at military posts in Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Mississippi, and now the East in Virginia. I have found the army a great experience, a big school, and a fine teacher."

Here's a letter from a former band instructor in Bunnell High who had many of you fellows in the band, Major EDWARD J. HENEY. Major Heney writes:

"A letter of thanks for sending The Flagler Tribune, and also to notify you of my change of address. Although still in Camp Pickett (Va) my unit designation has been changed to x x x.

Recently I was pleasantly surprised with a promotion to Major which accounts for the other change in the address.

It may be of interest to the folks in Flagler County to know that John is in the navy at Norfolk, Va., near Camp Pickett. On my last visit we enjoyed reminiscing about Bunnell.

Bill Heney is now managing the Beach theater at Jacksonville Beach.

Will close with kindest personal regards to all the folks in Flagler County."

(Thanks for the nice letter, and congratulations, Major. We know your former pupils will be glad to get the news about yourself and your brothers John and Bill).

Well, Christmas has come and "went," and now 1945 is just around the corner for all of us. Let us hope all of us will be able to celebrate Christmas of 1945 together once again.

The editor of this column feels today about like "Father Time" looks, acknowledges with appreciation greeting cards from more of you fellows scattered around the world. Among them are:

Other cards received included those from Major EDWARD HENEY in Virginia ......

Maj. EDWARD HENEY, former Bunnell High bandmaster was recently transferred from Camp Pickett, Va. to Fort Bragg, N. C.

Major EDWARD HENEY is in Berlin. Major Heney's letter said in part:

"I am now stationed in Berlin and assigned to the 78th infantry division. Berlin has been bombed to the extent that a recent engineering survey brought out the fact that it will take 25 years to rebuild the city.

It appears that the German people now realize that they were badly defeated. Their attitude towards the Americans is one of friendliness. But they fear and hate the Russians.

The Berlin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra has been reorganized and is now giving concerts. I plan to attend a performance on January 7. If they are as good as they were before the war the program should be a real treat.

If possible I should appreciate the Tribune at this address: Maj. Edward J. Heney, 0346409, Hq. 78th Inf. Div. ARTY, APO 78, Postmaster, New York, N. Y.
