Flagler County has 74 men in the various branches of the armed forces at this time ..... the list up to date is as follows: WILBUR DALE HERR

Here's a letter from a fellow we haven't heard from before and one, perhaps, many of you don't remember because he has been in the Navy a number of years - W. D. HERR, son of Mrs. Lola Herr here. He is a Chief and says:

“I have just received my first two copies of The Flagler Tribune and I want you to know I appreciate them very much.

It is indeed a pleasure to read the news of Flagler County although it arrives late. I like, especially, to read the news of the men in the service. Was so very sorry to hear about Joy Deen.

There is not much news around here to write about. We just mark time and hope we can get it over soon so we can return.”

We received this week, also, a V-mail Easter card with a beautiful poem from Navy Chief W. D. HERR, son of Mrs. Lola Herr, Chief Herr has been in the navy a number of years, and has been in the Pacific theater for a long time now.

Mrs. Lola Herr has just received a letter from her son, Chief Diver WILBUR D. HERR, who wrote Tokyo Bay where he and his crew were taking up Jap midget suicide subs. He said Tokyo "looks a bit different than it did when I was here in 1928." He said he hoped to be finished with the work there shortly and perhaps would sail for the States. He has been in the Navy for approximately 20 years and expects to come out soon.
