Many of you remember another Negro soldier from here - he was called BOLL WEEVIL, when he worked for Mr. Brunson at the FEC station. His real name is L. C. NELSON and he is somewhere in the South Pacific. He was among the first of the volunteers from this county.

I understand there are several Negro soldiers from Flagler County in North Africa but I haven’t been able to verify it.

Another of Flagler county Negro soldiers is home honorably discharged from the army after nearly three years in the Pacific. He is JAMES NELSON but much better known as "Boll weevil." Remember he used to work at the FEC depot for Mr. Brunson? He went into the army about four years ago as now is only 20 years old. He is the same boy except he has grown up.
