GEORGE ELLIOTT ALLEN

Thursday, June 23, 1949 - - George E. Allen, prominent resident of Bunnell and Flagler Beach, was killed late Tuesday after his car apparently skidded on the beach highway 1,000 feet east of the canal bridge. He was alone at the time and the highway was wet from a light rain.

Investigating officers concluded that he put on the brakes to slow down for the narrow, one­way bridge, and skidded. He was thrown from the car but it apparently rolled over him.

Mr. Allen, who maintained homes in Bunnell and Flagler Beach, was on his way from Bunnell to his beach home when the accident occurred about 7:30 P. M.

Mr. Allen was a native of Cedartown, Ga., but came to Bunnell from Jacksonville, where he had resided several, years, in 1919. He was engaged in the turpentine, farming and cattle raising business, and was a member of the board of county commissioners for several terms.

Funeral services will be held this afternoon from the Methodist Church here at 1 o'clock, with Rev. H. B. Murdock, former pastor and Rev. Robert Carr, present pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Espanola cemetery with Haigh and Brooks in charge.

Survivors include his wife, Nell Allen; three daughters, Mrs. Ida Powell, McIntosh; Mrs. Louisa Dursheimer, Albany, Ga.; Mrs. Ria Johnston, Bunnell; one, son, George Allen, Jr., Bunnell; three sisters, Mrs. C. E. Curry, Palatka; Mrs. A. H. Baker, Orlando; and Mrs. T. E. Lovelace, Bunnell. Also surviving are five grand­children.

Pallbearers are: K. K. Knight, H. T. Cook, J. F. Gresham, D., D. Moody, L. E. Wadsworth, and Dale B. Brown, Sr.
