	      Below is an item, which  appeared in a Freemont, Michigan paper, stating the news of the death of  Benjamin J. Bates of that city. Mr. Bates was the father of Mrs. G. H. Barber  of this city. Mrs. Benjamin J. Bates is a resident of Bunnell, living with her  daughter, Mrs. Barber.
	      The item is as follows:
	      “Benjamin J. Bates, son .of  Mr. George and Elmira Bates was born at Rome, New York, March 28, 1858, and  passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. N. Bristol, Freemont, Mich.,  June 10, 1926.
	      He was united in marriage to  Grace Campbell February 6th, 1879, and about four years later they moved to  Iowa and settled in this new country near the Buffalo River, from thence they  moved to Velva, North Dakota and homesteaded, thence to Lougheed, Alberta,  Canada, also homesteading there, and from there they moved to Bunnell, Florida,  also a new country. About four years ago they moved to Freemont, Mich.
	      To this union seven children  were born. Two children died in infancy and one girl in her early teens. Mr.  Bates is survived by Mrs. Bates, who is living with a daughter in Florida, Mr.  Lester C. Bates, Mrs. Robert White, both of Hardistry, Alberta, Canada, Mrs. G.  H. Barber of Bunnell, Florida, and Mrs. N. C. Bristol of Freemont, Michigan,  also 15 grandchildren and 3 brothers and 2 sisters in New York state.
	      In his early boyhood Mr. Bates  united with the M. E. church and later on he united with the Congregational  church of Velva, N. Dakota.
	      The funeral services were held  in the Freemont M. E. church Monday the pastor, Rev. H. W. Ellinger, officiating. Interment was in Maple Grove  cemetery here."
