Funeral service for Samuel Norman Black, Sr., 45, 170 Arlington Way, Ormond Beach, who died Wednesday at his home, were held Friday morning at the First United Methodist Church, Ormond Beach with Dr. Bruce F. Gannaway officiating. Interment was in Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Black, a frequent visitor here, was the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Holden of Bunnell.

He was a native of High Point, N. C. and moved to Ormond Beach in 1950. He established Black’s Pharmacy in Ellinor Village in 1950. He was very active in civic affairs, having served as city commissioner of Ormond Beach from 1959-1961 and was presently serving on the Ormond Beach Planning Board.

He was a charter member and trustee of the First United Methodist Church, one of the founders of, and treasurer of the Ormond Beach Memorial Hospital, charter member and past president of the Ormond Beach Rotary Club, member and past president of Volusia County Pharmaceutical Association. He was also a member of Ormond Beach Lodge No. 326 F&AM, Ormond Beach Shrine Club, Bahia Temple, Orlando, Daytona Beach Quarterback Club, and Oceanside County Club.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor H.; two sons Samuel Norman, Jr., Edward Lee; two daughters, Eleanor Jane, and Ethel Ann, all of Ormond Beach; one aunt, Mrs. J. E Covington, Ashboro, N. C.
