Dr. Reddin Britt, a longtime friend and physician of many Flagler County residents, died in St Augustine last week at the age of 78.

Dr. Britt was a native of Lumberton, N. C. and had a practice in Bunnell from 1928 to 1929. He left Bunnell to open a practice in St. Augustine were he continued to care for Flagler County residents.

Dr. Britt practiced medicine in St. Augustine for more that 40 years. He was a physician and surgeon and was associated with the Flagler Hospital until retirement in 1971.

Dr. Britt was a veteran of World War II serving as a Major in the U. S. Army. From 1942 to 1945, he was assistant to the chief surgeon on the 32nd state hospital in North Africa. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Free Polish Award.

He was a graduate of Boules Creek Academy, Chapel Hill College and the University of Georgia. He interned in Waycross, Ga., before coming to Bunnell. He was a life member of the Florida State Medical Assn. and a member of the American Medical Assn.

He was active in community life in addition to his processional associations and held memberships in St. Albans Masonic Lodge 114, F and AM, Lumberton;  Scottish Rite Bodies, Morocco Temple of Jacksonville, the St. Augustine Shrine Club and LOJ Court 92 of Jacksonville. He was an honorary member of the St. Augustine Rotary Club. He was a member of the St. Augustine Historical Society.

He was a member of the Ancient City Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Ancient City Baptist Church. Rev. Paul Carmichael officiated. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery, with Masonic graveside services.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bess L. Britt, St. Augustine; two sisters, Mrs. William Scott, Hopewill, Va., and Mrs. Blanche O’Ferrell, Fayetteville, N. C. A niece and two nephews also survive.
