Flagler County Sheriff Homer W. Brooks died suddenly of a heart attack Tuesday morning. He was stricken with the fatal attack just after he entered his automobile, which had been parked in front of the Courthouse. After starting his car and traveling a few feet he stopped the car and slumped over the steering wheel. Deputies Ace Drummond and Leroy Irwin in the sheriff's office observed the condition and rushed to his aid. They rushed him four blocks to the Bunnell General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr. Brooks was a native of Flagler County and has resided here most of his life. He was first elected Flagler County Sheriff in 1956, and re-elected in 1960 and 1964. He was 61 years of age.

He was a World War II veteran, serving the Navy Sea Bees. He was a past president of the Rotary Club; past president of the Flagler County Shrine Club; a member of the Bunnell Masonic Lodge No. 200; the York Rite bodies; the Eastern Star, American Legion; V. F. W; and the Florida State Sheriff's Association.

He is survived by his widow, Mable of Bunnell; 3 sisters, Mrs. Bertie O'Brien, Bunnell; Mrs. Ethel Grice and Mrs. Mertie Graye both of Daytona Beach. Also surviving are two nieces who have made their home with them, Mrs. Diane Yelvington and Miss Isabel Greene of Bunnell.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 Thursday from the First Baptist Church. The pastor, Rev. T. M. Pinner will officiate. Interment will follow at the family lot in the Shady Rest Cemetery in Holly Hill.

Active pallbearers are Ace Drummond, Leroy Irwin, Johnny Lynn, Levi Brannam, Donald Moore and Dean Peterson.

Honorary bearers are: Henry Wells, Tom Holden, T. K. McKnight Dean Holland, George Moody, Walter Cody, Fred Chambers, and John Cannon.
