THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, July 29, 1948

Fred Preston Cone, 76, former Florida governor, died at Lake Shore Hospital in Lake City, his home, Wednesday afternoon.

The state’s one-time chief executive had been hospitalized since July 21 when his physician said he suffered a “cerebral accident.” He was riding with Mrs. Cone at the time he was stricken.

His condition was not believed serious at first but he became worse last Friday night.

One of his last public appearances was his introduction of Fuller Warren, Democratic nominee for governor, when he spoke at Lake City on his “thank you” tour. A few hours later, Cone became ill.

Surviving are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Carl W. Brimmer of Baltimore; two brothers, Branch of Macclenny and Peter of Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. W. F. Wadsdin of Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be held at Lake City tomorrow.
