Dr. John Butler Culpepper, pioneer Methodist evangelist in the south, died at the home of his son, Rev. Burke Culpepper of Memphis, Tenn., on January 19th, after an illness, which lasted about three weeks, according to word received here.

Dr. Culpepper was 87 years of age and had years of experience in the evangelical work which carrying him through Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and Arkansas. He had also written a number of books along his line of work.

Dr. Culpepper retired from active service about ten years ago.

He lived here with his son, Rev. John B. Culpepper, Jr., who was pastor of the local Methodist church from 1930 to 1933.

Dr. and Mrs. Culpepper were married sixty-three years, among his children were three Methodist ministers. He is also related to more than twenty-five Methodist ministers and evangelists.

Among the survivors are his widow; two daughters, Mrs. J. G. Mackey of Orlando, also one who resides in Louisiana; also two sons, Rev. Burke Culpepper of Memphis, Tenn., and Rev. John B. Culpepper of Okeechob­ee, Florida.

Funeral arrangements have not been learned at this time, but it is expected that burial will be made in Memphis.
