THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, January 23, 1930

A familiar and beloved figure of Flagler County, "Uncle" Dan Deen, was claimed by death at two o'clock this afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Z. G. Holland eight miles west of Bunnell.

Mr. Deen was 75 years old and had been a visitor in Bunnell a few days before his death, however he suffered an attack of indigestion a week ago and had not fully recovered, but death came as a surprise, he having been up and around the house early this morning.

Mr. Deen was born in Georgia but had spent many years in Flagler County, being in the mercantile business here for a number of years. He was familiarly known to his friends simply as "Uncle Dan." Mr. Deen was a member of the local Masonic lodge and had served as master of the lodge for many years.

He is survived by four sons, Dave A. Deen and T. B. Deen of Jacksonville; George M. and Morrell E. of Gainesville; and five daughters, Mrs. Z. G. Holland of this place, Miss Carrie Deen of Dallas, Texas, Mrs. C. M. Fisher and Mrs. Elmo Riley of Miami and Mrs. Ned Beville of Gainesville.

Funeral services are to be held in Gainesville Saturday afternoon, and will be laid to rest beside that of his wife who died July year ago.
