Willem S. Frederik, M.D., Ph.D., 64, of 47 Courtney Place, Palm Coast, died Sunday, April 24, at his home.

He was born in Utrecht in the Netherlands and studied at the University of Utrecht where he attained his medical degree and his Ph.D. degrees. Dr Frederik came to the United States in 1949 at the invitation of the Harvard School of Public Health where he lectured and obtained his Master of Science degree.

He was awarded the American Medical Association’s Thomas G. Hull Gold Medal for his contribution to research concerning respiration.

He was a Fellow of the International College of Angiology, American College of Angiology and the Society for Advanced Medical Systems. He also was a member of the American Academy of Occupational Medicine, the New York Academy of Science, the Industrial Medical Association and the Delta Omega Society.

Dr. Frederik moved to Palm Coast seven months ago from Mountainside, N. J., upon retiring as medical systems director of the New York Telephone Co.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Johanna C. A. Frederik, one daughter Hanneke, and one son, Willem.

Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 28, at St. Marks-by-the-Sea Lutheran Church with the Rev. Marcus Otterbein, pastor, officiating.

Burial was to be in Hope Cemetery. Craig Funeral Home, Bunnell was in charge of arrangements.
