Delman Gardner, one of a party of three from Daytona Beach, drowned in the Intra­coastal Waterway about half a mile south of the Flagler Beach Bridge late Monday afternoon.

The body was not recovered until Tuesday afternoon when it was brought up by D. D. Moody, A. D. Stuckey and Sheriff Henry Wells who dragged the bottom of the waterway.

Harley Sherbert, one of Gardner's companions on the fishing trip, said that Gardner went swimming from the boat and sank suddenly.

It was reported that Gardner had enlisted in the army and was to have reported for duty September 17. Surviving him are his wife and a young daughter, and his mother who lives in Massachusetts.
