THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, March 18, 1926

A. N. Gattis, freight train conductor, for the F. E. C., received injuries near Korona Monday, from which he died instantly. Absolute facts could not be learned, as witness’s testimony conflicted, caused, it is supposed by the excitement.

Gattis was with a crew operating a pile driver near Korona, and while a train was approaching, he waved the train down, and when the train neared the spot, an A-frame of the dredge began falling, and in his efforts to get out of the way of the falling frame, in some way was hit. He sustained injuries on the back and head.

The accident happened about 3:15. About five o'clock, the body was removed from the scene of accident to the funeral parlors of Bingham & Maley of Daytona Beach, where it was prepared for burial.

Mr. Gattis resided in New Smyrna, and leaves a wife, two brothers and four sisters. P. L. Gattis, a brother of the dead man, is transportation inspector for the Florida East Coast Railroad.
