J. C. Geiger, clerk of the circuit court of this county was seriously injured and died shortly after an automobile accident Tuesday night. He and Hiram Ashley were riding in Daytona Beach when their machine plunged over the retaining wall and into the Halifax River.

Geiger was taken to the Halifax Public Hospital suffering from a broken arm and cuts about the head. He was treated there but died about midnight.

Ashley, who was carried to the police station, had a broken nose and was in a dazed condition at that time. He could not supply details of the accident, it was said. The accident occurred at the foot of Loomis Avenue where it turns sharply into Beach Street, bordering the river.

The body was prepared for burial by a Daytona Beach undertaking establishment and brought to Bunnell Thursday where interment was made in Hope Cemetery after a funeral service at the Baptist church with Rev. C. C. Long officiating.

Shortly after the creation of Flagler County he entered the race for clerk here and winning the place which he held unopposed ever since. He also held large property interest in this county, farming being among them.

Mr. Geiger was a member of several fraternal societies and the time of his death, a funeral service was conducted at the grave by the Masonic order.

Surviving the dead man are his wife, four daughters, Mrs. Jessie Little of Daytona Beach; Mae, Corrie and Gertrude of Bunnell and two sons, J. C. Jr., and William, also of this place.
