Monsignor Leo W. Gildea, 70, who made his home at 4 Cerrudo Lane in Palm Coast since 1973, died recently at home of an apparent heart attack.

Prior to his retirement in 1973, Msgr. Gildea had served as pastor of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Scranton, Pa. He was born in Ashley, Pa.

He was ordained as a priest May 22,1937, at St. Paul’s Church in Scranton. He served there as assistant pastor and at St. Peter's Cathedral in Scranton before entering the Navy as chaplain in 1943.

After leaving the Navy in 1946, Msgr. Gildea became pastor of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in West Wyoming, Pa. He also served as pastor of Immaculate Conception Church in Scranton and was for a time director of the Catholic War Veterans in Scranton.

Survivors include two brothers, several nieces and several nephews.

Funeral mass was said last Saturday at St. Paul's in Scranton, with Bishop J. Carroll McCormick of Scranton Parish, as principal celebrant.
