Rev. Reynold N. Hoover, 86, of 1620 S. Central Ave., Flagler Beach, died Monday at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach.

Born in Davis, Ill., Rev. Hoover moved to Flagler Beach 20 years ago from Chicago.

He was instrumental in the organization of Flagler Beach United Methodist Church and followed through with the construction of the Fellowship Hall, where worship services were held initially, later the sanctuary and then the parsonage.

Rev. Hoover helped start the Flagler County Council on Aging. He was active in many other community affairs. A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church, past chaplain of American Legion chapters in Chicago and West Chicago and a Mason.

He and his widow, Virgil, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 3 of this year.

Survivors, in addition to his widow include three daughters: Phyllis Rooney, Jacksonville;  Doris Balbach, Warren, Ill. And Ruth Munro, Flagler Beach;  one son, Reynold L., Windsor, Conn.;  one sister, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Services will be a 2 this afternoon at Flagler Beach United Methodist Church. The family requests in lieu of other remembrances that donations be made to the Flagler Beach United Methodist Church Memorial Fund.
