THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, October 25, 1930

Surrounded my many old and loving friends, Mrs. Martha Rankin Howard of Flagler Beach was laid to rest in Cedar Hill cemetery at Daytona Beach Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Howard was one of the pioneer residents of the peninsular side of Daytona Beach having moved there fourteen years ago, owning and managing the While House on Main street now known as the Fernwood hotel.

Four years ago, Mrs. Howard purchased Bulow Grant No. 1 at Flagler Beach on which she build an attractive home where she and her son, Montgomery Rankin, have since lived.

Of old English parentage, she was born in Canada where several sisters and brothers still reside. Leaving Canada, she lived for some time in New York and since 1911 has made her home in Florida, first in Crescent City and afterwards in DeLand, Daytona Beach and finally in Flagler Beach.

Besides her two sons, Montgomery Rankin of Flagler Beach and Earl Rankin of New York City, four sisters and four brothers in London, England and Toronto, Canada, are left to mourn her loss.

A mass of lavender and white flowers covered the casket and made beautiful her last resting place, many of the flowers having been sent from Canada.

Among those who attended the funeral services of Mrs. Howard in Daytona Beach were Dr. and Mrs. E. E. Dow, Mrs. H. L. Sears and Mrs. R. S. Tolan.
