J. L. Jones, one of Flagler County’s most prominent citizens, died at his place of business on Kings road last Friday morning, death being due to paralysis. Mr. Jones’ death came suddenly and was a distinct shock to his many friends in this section of Florida.

Mr. Jones, besides being an extensive grower of early vegetables and a manufacturer, has served this county for a number of terms as county commissioner.

Mr. Jones was born in Columbia County, Florida, 56 years ago and had lived in Flagler County for a period of 12 years. He was married to Miss Rosa E. Braddock, also of his home county, 37 years ago and she and seven children survive him.

Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. Selph of DeLand, assisted by Rev. B. K. McClure of the local Baptist church and Rev. A. H. Hancock, of the Methodist church. Burial was held at Ormond Beach at 4 p. m., the burial ceremony being conducted by the Ku Klux Klan.

Those surviving the deceased besides Mrs. Jones are three sons, Kenneth of this place; Edgar of Miami Beach and Watson of Detroit, Michigan; four daughters, Mrs. W. F. Booe, Ft. Lauderdale; Mrs. C. L. Edsell, LeRaysville, Pa.; Mrs. W. J. Pickett, Callahan, Florida; Mrs. Will Cushing, Ormond, Florida. Also by two brothers, Chas. Jones of Hollywood, Florida, and James H. Jones of Statesboro; Georgia; two sisters, Mrs. D. L. Walker of Plant City, Florida, and Mrs. A. C. Selph of Wellborn, Florida.
