Robert A. Jones, 55, retired pharmacist of New Smyrna Beach, died suddenly of a heart attack Friday afternoon, January 7, while hunting near Titusville.

Mr. Jones was born in Trenton and resided a number of years in Alachua County and later in Micanopy where he operated a drug store. He was a member of the first class to graduate from the College of Pharmacy in the University of Florida in 1925. For eleven and a half years he was pharmacist in Holden's Pharmacy here. He moved to New Smyrna Beach in 1947 where he established the Bob Jones Pharmacy. He retired in 1946.

During the First World War Mr. Jones held the grade of sergeant in the 81st – Wildcat -- division, serving a year overseas. He was a member of the Methodist Church, The American Legion, 40 and 8 Society, Bunnell Masonic Lodge No. 200, New Smyrna Beach Rotary Club, Yacht Club and the New Smyrna Beach Chamber of Commerce. He also was a Past Patron of the Bunnell Eastern Star Chapter.

Funeral services were held at ten o’clock Monday morning in the Settle Funeral Home in New Smyrna Beach, with Rev. Gaylon L. Howe, pastor of the Methodist Church, and Rev. R. D. Russell, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment was in the family plot in Evergreen Cemetery at Gainesville at 3 o'clock Monday afternoon. American Legion service and Masonic rites were conducted at the graveside.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Mary Flewellen Jones, New Smyrna Beach; one stepson, Jim Camp, McIntosh; a brother, Chas. A. Jones of Gainesville; and one sister, Mrs. Charles Hand of Southern Pines, N. C., and Ithaca, New York.
