Jess Keen, of Ojus, was killed early Monday evening near here near Triple A south of here when hit by a car driven by Kenneth Hunter, Bunnell, resident.

Hunter was returning home from Daytona Beach and had picked up J. A. Gogin, G. A. Soskstrup and “Schulsterman,” Navy men from Jacksonville NAS in Ormond and who were witnesses to the accident.

Homer Brooks, deputy sheriff who investigated, said Keen was apparently a hitchhiker walking north on the highway when he was hit.

County Judge E. W. Johnston ruled the death was an unavoidable accident. Keen was identified by a social security card.

The boy was taken to Garcia Funeral Home in St. Augustine and the sheriff’s office here is trying to locate relatives.
