THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, May 5, 1938

The Grim Reaper again has reached his hand into Flagler County and carried away another of the well known pioneers of this section of the state -- W. E. Knight, Sr., of the Haw Creek community - - who died Monday night in Glendale Hospital at Palatka after an illness of ten days.

Mr. Knight spent the last 40 years of his life at his home here where he was engaged during that time in extensive farming operations, raising sheep and cattle. He was born at Lake Butler, in Union County, but it was at that time Bradford County. He was 68 years of age at his death, and had enjoyed excellent health up to a few days before entering the hospital.

He was active in politics of this county, and served as county commissioner from his district for a number of terms. He was identified with most of the movements launched in Flagler County. He was a member of the Methodist church for many years.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Bunnell Methodist Church with Rev. W. L. Nelson, pastor of the church, officiating. Burial was made at a Crescent City cemetery the same afternoon.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Salome Knight, three daughters, Mrs. Edith Singletary, Gordon, Ga., Mrs. Freda Dunn, Fort Worth, Texas, Mrs. Alice Jones of Bunnell; four sons, K. K. Knight and W. E.
