News reached here last week too late for publication disclosed the death of Mrs. Ira Malden, who, with her husband and little girl, lived here for a number of years, removing to Astor early last year.

According to a story published in the Umatilla Tribune, the Ford roadster in which Mrs. Malden was driving, turned over from an unknown cause, killing Mrs. Malden but the child escaped with slight injuries.

The story in the Umatilla Tribune is as follows:

“Mrs. Ida Malden, driving a Ford roadster to her home near Aston, and accompanied by her four-year old daughter, was killed when the machine overturned from some undetermined cause on rounding a curve near Astor on Tuesday morning of this week.

The unfortunate woman was picked up by a passerby and carried to Astor and Dr. Harmon of Eustis summoned. Arrival of the physician shortly after proved unavailing, life passed away with a few hours from fracture of the vertebrae and internal injuries. The little child though severely shaken up was apparently not seriously harmed.

Mrs. Malden was the wife of Ira Malden, employed on the shell mound works near Astor, where they resided. She was originally a native of Cheraw, S. C. and was 27 years of age.

The body was brought on Tuesday afternoon to Beyers Funeral Parlor in Umatilla, for embalming and was sent that same evening to Cheraw, S. C., for burial.
