Dennis W. Malphurs, 58, Ormond Justice of the Peace since 1946, died early this morning at his home in Ormond.

Mr. Malphurs had been in ill health for some time and was stricken by a heart attack.

He was born in Bunnell, but moved to Ormond in 1902. From 1920 to 1927 he operated an Ormond food store and later, under county commissioner W. M. Hankins, was maintenance foreman for Ormond roads and bridges.

The Volusia County Democratic Executive Committee selected him as candidate to fill the unexpired term of Peace Justice I. T. Washburn and, running unopposed, was victorious over a  “write-in” opponent in the fall elections. Last May he earned a full four-year term when he ran without opposition in that primary.

Funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the Haigh and Brooks Funeral Home in Daytona Beach, interment will follow at the Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at Ormond.

Survivors include his wife, Julia; two sons, Julian D. and Roy; a daughter, Mrs. S. D. Westberry, all of Ormond; a sister, Mrs. Martha Priest, Delray Beach; two brothers, Ernest, West Palm Beach, and J. B., Holly Hill
