Monday morning at 11 o'clock saw the passing of another pioneer citizen of Flagler County - - J. W. Malphurs, at his home a few miles west of Bunnell.

Mr. Malphurs, who lacked but a few days reaching the age of 59 years, was born and reared here, having cleared the tract of land for the farm where he has lived since a young man, rearing to adult age a large family.

Since the creation of Flagler County in 1917, Mr. Malphurs has been interested in the political life of the county, having served as county commissioner from his district, and other public offices.

Surviving are his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Harold McAlexander and Miss Clarice Malphurs of this place; Mrs. Jessie Carlisle, Mrs. William Ruth, and Mrs. Carl Robinson, of Seville; one son, Riley of this county. Also a sister, Mrs. Martha Priest of Delray Beach; four brothers, Riley and Berry of Bunnell; Ernest of West Palm Beach, and Dennis of Ormond. There are also seven grandchildren to mourn his passing.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Espanola Cemetery, where the body was laid to rest with other members of the family. Rev. J. E. Jenkins, pastor of the local Methodist church, had charge of the services.

Pallbearers were Z. G. Holland, C. B. Miller, E. A. Hunter, O. H. Cowart, Bert Hamilton and Eddie Pellicer.
