Pvt. Donald G. Matheny, son of Mrs. Metta Matheny, sister of Harold Wilson who recently purchased the Highway Lunch and Flagler Cabins was reported by the war department as having been killed in action in the Philippines on January 26.
           
Private Matheny was a member of the 503rd parachute division that dropped down on the “topside" of Corregidor Island when it was taken from the Japs.
           
He has a brother, Kester Matheny, now in Miami after being wounded over Italy while he was a gunner with the Fifteenth Air Force. He previously took part in the Invasion of Africa, Sicily, and Italy. The father was a veteran of the First World War and was wounded by gas in that conflict. He died last year.
           
Mrs. Matheny and Mr. and Mrs. Wilson are from West Virginia and are making their home here.
