Francis McLeod, 14-year-old girl living with her mother and baby brother on the Cunningham place in the Bimini section, attempted suicide last Sunday afternoon by shooting herself through the abdomen with a 16-guage shotgun.

According to officers who made investigation, the child was subject to fits of despondency and after some disagreement with her mother took gun, walked a short distance from the home and shot herself by placing the muzzle of the gun on the lower right abdomen, leaned over the gun barrel and pulled the trigger.

She had written a not to her mother saying “ . . . blame nobody for this but Francis.”

She was carried to the East Coast Hospital in St. Augustine and last reports indicate that there is a possibility of recovery.
