Robert Earl Ross, Jacksonville, drowned Friday afternoon while swimming in the ocean just south of Flagler Beach Pier. Members of the Ross family noted Ross floating and a brother-in-law went out to see about him.

He was pulled into shore and Life Guard Ed Schatz and Police Chief J.R. Brown were called to the scene to administer resuscitation. Heart massage was administered by Deputy Ross Iesminger and Ambulance Driver John Capo. Ross was dead on arrival at Bunnell General Hospital.
