THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE
Bunnell, Florida
Thursday, April 17, 1941

Richard McArthur Rutherford, 18year-old son of Mrs. H. C. Rutherford, was killed last Saturday morning at the dairy of L. M. Whitaker on the edge of Bunnell when he was thrown from a horse against a post.

Young Rutherford, who had been employed on Wednesday before the accident for a period of temporary work, was riding the horse along a road skirting the dairy when the horse suddenly turned in at an opening in the fence. The rider was thrown from the horse and struck one of the posts. He was first examined by Dr. J. R. West here and started to a hospital in Palatka, dying from his injuries before reaching the hospital.

His parents and other members of the family were formerly residents of Flagler County, having worked for a number of years at the H. C. Miller dairy farm in the Bimini section, but have been living in Daytona Beach for about three years.

Funeral services for Mr. Rutherford were held Monday afternoon at four o'clock from the Baggett, Wetherby and McIntosh funeral home in Daytona Beach with Rev. Elizabeth Randolph officiating. He was buried the same afternoon in Greenwood Cemetery in Daytona Beach.
