THE FLAGLER TRIBUNE

Glenn Miller, owner of Miller's Bar and Grill at Flagler Beach, saw from a short distance the death leap and subsequent burning of an automobile in which two youths lost their lives in an attempt to avoid being quizzed by Miller, after they were discovered stealing gas from a parked truck in front of the Miller place Monday night about midnight.

After the theft of gasoline was reported to Miller, he watched the car slowly drive away south, then stop. He got in his own car and followed. The youths then speeded up, running ahead of Miller to the Ormond Hotel where the youths drove into the grounds without lights. Miller entered on the opposite side and the chase began anew.

At this time an Ormond Beach officer started after both cars. The trio went across the Ormond bridge, Miller stopping at the traffic light at intersection of U. S. 1 where the officer caught up with him.

The youths sped a few blocks west to a near dead-end, hit the high humped crossing of the railroad tracks, the sending car hitting a tree and. bursting into flames.

Ormond Beach Police Chief Rogers Willis said the youths had been tentatively identified as Kenneth C. Thorte, 16, step-son of Albert Teal, Catonsville, Md., and Daniel Benjamin Dale, 17, Towson, Md. The car driven by the pair, a late 1950 model was stolen Saturday night at a Baltimore neighborhood shopping center.
